Be careful when you go to  a storage unit and ask for a specific size, managers tend to say “Yes” to units that they do not even have.  This is done to bring in the costumer and make them rent a bigger or smaller unit. Many times a smaller unit will not be bi enough for all your things, thus forcing you to rent another one; increasing your rent. Then, if you rent a bigger unit, you could be paying for space that you do not even need.

In Manhattan,  most self storage unit locations open early in the morning and don’t close until late at night, however, there are only a few amount of self storage providers who are open 24 hours a day.

Perhaps 24 hours access if not a big deal for you, but if using self storage unit for excess inventory storage for your business, as an example, then early hours can be a big deal. This is a problem easily solved.

Right before the person even shows you the storage unit, ask “What are your hours?” If the hours meet your personal needs, then go on with the rental process. If not, keep looking, there are plenty of self storage units to choose from.
